Trademark Name Search

Find out if your business name, product name, or brand name is available as a trademark — before you invest in building it.

Is Your Name Available?

A trademark name search determines whether your proposed name conflicts with an existing trademark. The search goes beyond checking whether the exact name is registered — it identifies marks that are phonetically similar, conceptually related, or that create a similar commercial impression when used with related goods or services.

What We Check

Exact and near-exact matches in the federal register, state databases, and common law sources.

Phonetic matches. Names that sound similar when spoken aloud, even if the spelling differs. "Klear" and "Clear," "Phyre" and "Fire."

Semantic matches. Names that convey a similar meaning. "Sunrise" and "Dawn," "Summit" and "Peak."

Business Names vs. Trademark Names

Registering a business name with your state (LLC, corporation, or DBA) does not give you trademark rights. A state business registration is administrative — it does not prevent another business from using the same name for different goods, and it does not protect your name nationally. A trademark registration does.

When to Search

Before filing your LLC, before ordering business cards, before building your website, and before filing a trademark application. The earlier you search, the more flexibility you have.

Three tiers. One standard of rigor.
