A thorough investigation of all sources: federal register, all 50 state registers, and common law. Advanced phonetic, visual, and semantic matching. Attorney review of every result with risk levels assigned. This provides the confidence needed for a filing decision.
When Each Is Appropriate
Knockout: when screening a long list of names to narrow candidates quickly. You can run basic knockouts yourself using the free USPTO search.
Comprehensive: whenever making a commitment — filing an application, investing in branding, launching a product. The additional coverage and attorney analysis are essential.
